International Baccalaureate
Diploma Programme (IB)

Authorised School for the IBDP

SCHS is an authorised IB World School offering the Diploma Programme (DP).  IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students. The DP is available to students undertaking Year 11. Suzanne Cory High School is one of the handful of Government Schools offering the program and one of only 2 non zoned Government schools and the only non zoned option for boys.

What is the IB?

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is an assessed programme for students aged 16 to 19. The programme is highly regarded by both Australian and international universities and is recognised worldwide as an excellent tertiary preparatory course. This is supported by research, which suggests that there are many benefits, both academic and social to choosing the DP. The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

Do students still complete VCE (year 11 and 12)?

Students will have the choice of selecting either VCE, or the IBDP for their senior years. The IBDP programme is an alternative pathway option available for students.

What are the benefits of selecting the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP)?

The IBDP is open to any student aged 16-19 in year 11 and 12. As a global programme, students from all over the world undertake this academically challenging and balanced educational programme.

It addresses the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students, and is respected by universities across the globe.  Each of the IB’s programmes, including the DP, is committed to the development of students according to the attributes shown in the IB learner profile. Students considering tertiary studies internationally may also benefit from the IBDP.

How will the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) be integrated within Suzanne Cory High School?

Students will still continue to enjoy all that SCHS has to offer. The only difference will be their classes will be within the IBDP. These classes run simultaneously to other classes offered at SCHS.

They will still experience and be involved in homegroups, co-curricular activities, sport and general school life at SCHS.
