VCE

Consolidating the skills and knowledge to provide students with academic success.

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is an accreditation that recognises the successful completion of a student’s secondary education. VCE study at Suzanne Cory spans Year 11 and Year 12, with opportunities for high-achieving students to accelerate their studies at junior year levels. Students may also contribute to the creative and social programs of the school through positions of student leadership and responsibility.

Applications for Year 11 enrolment in 2024 have now close. Applications for 2026 will open early 2025.

Year 11 and 12 students must successfully complete at least 16 units of VCE subjects that:

  • must include at least three units from the English group;
  • must include three pairs of units at the 3 and 4 level, other than English;
  • may include an unlimited number of units of Vocational Education and Training.

Unfortunately, due to the selective entry nature of the school, we do not take new enrolments at Year 12 level.

In addition to their VCE certificate, students who study both a Language other than English (LOTE) subject and challenging Mathematics (Specialist Mathematics or Mathematical Methods) subject are also eligible for a VCE (Baccalaureate) certificate.

A VCE program at Suzanne Cory generally consists of 20 to 24 units taken over 2 – 3 years. Year 11 students must take 6 VCE units each semester, which may include an accelerated subject (if approved). Year 12 students will normally undertake 5 units of 3 & 4 sequence study in their final year of schooling.

More information on the regulation and assessment of VCE subjects can be found here.

Successful completion of the VCE is indicative of our students’ commitment to learning, and the culmination of the academic and study skills developed throughout their time at Suzanne Cory High School.

Our students not only demonstrate consistently strong ATAR results, but also show a strong commitment to their community by assuming positions of leadership (including House and School Captainship) amongst their peers and engagement with the community.
